Samsung is offering a brand new experience with One UI 8

Samsung’s new Android 16-based interface, One UI 8, was unveiled alongside new foldable models at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event. While it was overshadowed by hardware innovations like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Watch 8 series, One UI 8’s simplified experience, security-focused innovations, and AI integrations that simplify daily use are noteworthy.

The new interface was first released on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. While beta versions have been tested before, the stable version of One UI 8 began rolling out for the first time at this event. The interface is expected to reach other models starting with the Galaxy S25 series soon.

Developed by Samsung in partnership with Google, One UI 8 is fully integrated with the core features of Android 16. Instead of radical visual changes, the focus is on improvements such as smoother animations, more natural transitions, and simplification of screen elements. For example, the stuttering experienced when switching between apps is now eliminated; animations flow seamlessly when multiple apps are closed.

The user interface adapts better to different screen configurations. The screen layout has been streamlined for tablets, phones, and wearable devices, including the external displays of foldable phones. In particular, the Now Bar feature on the Z Flip 7’s external display now operates more reliably. Now Brief, which also offers more personalized notifications and reminders, has been restructured to adapt to daily routines.

One UI 8 introduces deeper integration with the AI experience. The system, which makes recommendations based on user behavior, adapts to app usage and the time of day. The Audio Eraser feature, previously introduced with One UI 7, is now available not only during video playback but also in apps like Samsung Notes and Voice Recorder. Background noise in recorded content can be removed with a single tap.

On the visual content front, the newly added Dynamic Effect feature offers a 3D-like motion effect in photos. This innovation, similar to the live effect structure, is fun but stands out as an experimental tool rather than a functional one.

The new interface also includes several small but effective features that will simplify users’ daily lives. Auracast support, which uses Bluetooth LE Audio technology, allows for audio streaming to multiple devices simultaneously (e.g., Galaxy Buds 3 or hearing aids). NFC and QR code integration have also streamlined technical service processes. Users can now initiate service requests through their Samsung accounts without filling out forms.

The updated Reminders app allows for more collaborative use. Shared to-do lists can be created, and adding notes using voice input is made easier. Quick Share is also now more accessible with a one-tap shortcut added to quick settings.

Security is one of the most significant improvements in One UI 8. Thanks to the new system called KEEP (Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection), each app is assigned a dedicated encrypted storage area. This prevents AI-powered features (e.g., call summaries or transcripts) from sharing data with other apps, protecting personal information from unauthorized access.

Samsung has also updated its Knox Matrix security platform. When suspicious activity is detected, the system automatically logs the user out of their Samsung account, preventing the spread of potential threats.

Secure Wi-Fi service now uses post-quantum encryption methods. This means that even when quantum computers become widespread in the future, this infrastructure will be too strong to be cracked.

One UI 8 doesn’t offer any major surprises. However, it stands out with its simplification, functionality improvements, and approach to protecting user data. With its new interface, Samsung keeps the seemingly complex AI working behind the scenes, while keeping the visible parts simpler, faster, and more secure.
